The Spanish company Camposotillos in Toledo runs dairy cattle farming and forages for its own consumption. It was founded in 2004 an initiative of eleven farmers that were looking for continuity of their business and improving competitiveness and profitability. The farm houses 850 heads of cattle for dairy, where 450, are for milking. The whole production is sold to the Spanish company Forlasa (15.000 l per day) for cheese production.
During the summer season (June, July and August) this region of Spain may have temperatures hovering as high as 40ºC. Such high temperatures directly and adversely affect the production capacity of the cow as the food consumption drops, drastically, and therefore, also the milk production and the reproductive potential. This affects the technical parameters of the farm negatively.
Camposotillos S.L. contacted Munters in the exhibition Fima Ganadera that takes placed in Zaragoza biannually. Munters solution was to install air circulation fans MFS50, specially designed to meet the demands of livestock cooling and ventilation in open structures, as in the case of Camposotillos. In environments such as these the fans are used to fulfil two main purposes:
• To circulate sufficient quantities of air within the structure in an attempt to maintain an acceptable air quality within the occupied zone of the animals.
• To create a wind chill effect by generating a high enough air speed over the animal’s skin to ensure sufficient heat removal.
