Traditional air handling units do not deal efficiently with the high moisture load found in ice arenas. Problems related to high humidity are plentiful and dealing with them is an expensive experience. Excess moisture condenses on the surface of the ice and on the roof leading to dripping on the audience and the ice. In addition, condensation on the building structure creates corrosion, mold, and fungus. Ice build-ups on the ice surface forms a risk for skaters and as the ice surface softens, speed skaters will experience poor performance. During events with an audience, the problems increase as the humidity rises further and fog appears over the ice rink, disturbing visibility.
Ice arena desiccant dehumidifiers ensure that the dew point of the air in the rink will be kept low and close to the ice surface temperature.
